Flooding resulting from rainfall continuing for 3-4 days has put a number of settlements in Gulmi district at high risk. A rain-swollen Badighat, a stream, has put Ullikhola Bazaar in Johang VDC-2, and two settlements in Bamgha VDC-5 in grave danger. Bishnu Bhandari, a local of Ullikhola, said around 60 houses are at risk. He said floodwater may gush into these settlements anytime.
We have not slept for two consecutive nights (because of flood fears), Bhandari said. People have already shifted their belongings to safer places fearing that the stream may sweep the bazaar away anytime. Meanwhile, Gulmi district administration office has called locals to leave areas close to rivers and streams in view of rising water levels.
