Khoriya cultivation is an integrated farming practice; various studies in issues such as
socio-cultural practices, rituals/ceremonies, labor organization and social production
through the means of labor sharing, working pattern, economic activities, etc. are
under the anthropological domains. Plenty of research can be carried out under these
issues.
Labor arrangement in shifting cultivation is not only the means of doing agricultural
tasks but also production of social network, relationship, and cohesion. These
practices exhibit the cultural knowledge and identity of particular indigenous
communities. “...labor is a process whereby people interact with environment to
produce useful products for purposes of human reproduction. It is a social
activity...”(Gregory and Altman, 1989).
The research portrays agricultural labor with special reference to shifting cultivation
from the point of view of its role in social production, social relationship, and
everyday life of local people. The research also analyses the changing scenario of the
labor arrangement over time. In order to bring out these issues of shifting cultivation
following research questions is formulated, seen to be anthropologically interesting
and possible to investigative. It is expected that answering these questions certainly
contributes additional input in anthropological dimension of shifting cultivation.
